Next-gen leadership: Ramon Ang’s daughter Monica Ang-Mercado rises in San Miguel Food

Monica L. Ang-Mercado, daughter of tycoon Ramon S. Ang, has been named chief finance officer of San Miguel Food and Beverage, Inc., effective Feb. 5, 2025.

San Miguel Food and Beverage, which trades under the stock symbol FB, is a diversified food giant that manufactures iconic brands like Purefoods hot dogs and San Miguel beer.

Her appointment, alongside Emmanuel B. Macalalag as chief operating officer of the food division, signals a key development in the company’s leadership transition.

Ang-Mercado, also a director of SMC, succeeds Ildefonso B. Alindogan, while Macalalag replaces Francisco S. Alejo III, who served as San Miguel Food president for over two decades.

Ang has been actively preparing San Miguel Corp.’s succession plans, previously appointing his eldest son, John Paul Ang, as president and chief operating officer of the parent company.

Another daughter, Cecile Ang, serves as vice president of New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., the private operator of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
