Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is marking its 175th anniversary with a P5-billion sustainability bond offering carrying a 1.75-year maturity, a nod to its long history as the country's oldest bank.

The new offering follows BPI's P50-billion SIGLA social bond issuance in February 2026, which attracted demand 10 times its original P5-billion target, raising expectations that the bank could again exceed its fundraising goal.

This time, BPI is offering Sustainable Impact Building Our Legacy (SIBOL) Bonds, with an option to increase the P5-billion issue size if investors show strong appetite.

A nod to 175 years

The one-year-and-nine-month maturity is deliberate, with BPI matching the 1.75-year tenor to its 175th anniversary.

Beyond the anniversary symbolism, the bank plans to use the proceeds to finance or refinance eligible green and social projects, although it has yet to identify specific beneficiaries.

The Securities and Exchange Commission authorized the bonds to carry the ASEAN Sustainability Bond label on Oct. 20, recognizing their alignment with regional sustainability financing standards.

Investors get their turn

The public offer will run from Nov. 23 to Dec. 4, with issuance and listing on the Philippine Dealing & Exchange Corp. scheduled for Dec. 16.

BPI Capital Corp. and ING Bank N.V., Manila Branch will arrange the transaction, the third tranche of BPI's P200-billion bond program, while the final interest rate has yet to be announced.
