China Bank Securities hires First Metro executive as new president

Sy-led China Bank Securities has hired a brokerage executive from rival First Metro Securities to succeed longtime president Marisol Teodoro, tapping an industry veteran with more than 15 years of experience as it looks to build on last year’s market share gains.

Ronald Emmanuel A. Co will assume the roles of president and director on Aug. 17, taking over from Teodoro, who will retire from China Banking Corp. on Sept. 1 after leading the brokerage since 2017.

She will remain as adviser until Aug. 31 to help ensure a smooth transition, while the appointment completes the succession plan the bank announced last month.

Industry hire

Co, with over 15 years of experience, most recently oversaw operations at the Ty family-backed First Metro Securities Brokerage Corp. and previously held a similar role at Sy family's BDO Securities Corp., giving him experience at two of the country’s established retail brokerages.

He inherits a brokerage that posted solid growth in 2025.

China Bank Securities increased market share by 67 percent, climbed two places to No. 23 among the Philippine Stock Exchange’s 122 active trading participants, doubled transaction volume and lifted revenues by 37 percent.

The brokerage also grew deal volume by 52 percent after helping market initial public offerings and preferred share offerings for companies including Ayala Corp., Filinvest Development Corp., Megawide Construction Corp. and San Miguel Corp.

A distinguished career

Teodoro leaves after a banking career spanning more than three decades. Before leading China Bank Securities, she headed China Bank’s Treasury Business Center and earlier led business development and portfolio management for its Trust Group, following investment and credit roles at Security Bank and what is now Union Bank of the Philippines.

A graduate of the University of the Philippines with degrees in Business Economics and an MBA, she also completed the Trust Institute Foundation of the Philippines’ one-year Trust Course with distinction, became a Registered Financial Planner and earned Ateneo-BAP Certified Treasury Professional credentials.
