“While Mr. de Larrazabal’s return to the Globe fold as a director will be from a different vantage point, his deep knowledge of the organization with regard to both operations and culture will be invaluable to the board into helping shepherd Globe into achieving its shared purpose as Globe and its entire organization move forward together amidst these challenging times,” Globe said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday.
De Larrazabal will also join Globe’s Board Risk Oversight and Sustainability Committee, replacing Jaime Alfonso Antonio Zobel de Ayala, who is stepping down from the panel as part of the corporate reshuffle.
Leadership transition
The move brings back a Globe veteran who previously served as chief financial officer, treasurer and chief commercial officer before becoming Ayala Corp.’s chief finance officer from 2021 to 2025.
De Larrazabal is now president and chief executive of AREIT Inc. and chair of Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc.
End of a long tenure
Lazaro joined Globe’s board in 1997, the same year he became president and chief executive, beginning a tenure that helped shape the company’s growth over nearly three decades.
During his leadership, Globe rolled out more than 700,000 telephone lines, rapidly expanded its mobile and fixed-line subscriber base, and achieved its first positive ebitda and operating cash flow.
He later chaired the finance committee for 18 years, helping steer Globe’s financial strategy as it transformed from a traditional telecommunications operator into a digital services company.
