Preliminary Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data showed exports grew 35.6 percent from $7.28 billion a year earlier, marking the highest monthly value since trade records began in 1991.
September marked the country's 21st consecutive month of export growth, with the latest increase the strongest recorded during that period.
From January to September, merchandise exports rose 17.2 percent to $73.95 billion from $63.08 billion a year earlier, also setting a record for the nine-month period.
US remains top PH export destination
The United States remained the Philippines' largest export destination, accounting for $2.63 billion or 26.6 percent of September exports.
Hong Kong followed at $1.55 billion, China at $1.12 billion, Vietnam at $785.15 million and Japan at $619.17 million.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque attributed the performance to strong international demand and the competitiveness of Philippine industries.
“Our exporters continue to prove that Philippine products can compete and succeed globally. This record performance reflects strong global demand, the competitiveness of our industries, and the hard work of Filipino businesses, workers, farmers, and manufacturers. More importantly, it means greater opportunities for Filipinos across the country,” Roque said in a press statement.
Sustain growth
The DTI plans to sustain export growth through market diversification, international trade promotions and stronger buyer connections.
Recent initiatives include Philippine participation in Fine Food Australia 2026 and the first shipments of fresh durian and mangosteen to Canada.
The agency will also hold the Philippine Exporters' Trade Exposition & Forum from Nov. 4 to 8 in Pasay City, featuring more than 300 exhibitors and business-matching activities. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
