AREIT Inc. has recruited veteran investment banker Eduardo Javier “Javi” Carballo as chief operating officer, strengthening its leadership team as the country’s first real estate investment trust prepares for its next stage of expansion.

Carballo joins AREIT after serving as Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank’s managing director and head of debt capital markets for Southeast Asia and India in Singapore.

“AREIT has established a strong position as the country’s first REIT. As we enter our next phase, we need to build the capabilities to match our ambition and scale,” AREIT president and CEO Alberto de Larrazabal said in a statement on Thursday.

Carballo will assume the role on Sept. 7 and report directly to de Larrazabal.

A $40-billion track record

The incoming executive brings more than 25 years of experience in investment banking, debt markets, treasury strategy and large-scale financing across Asia-Pacific, the United States, Europe and emerging markets.

He has led approximately $20 billion in bond issuances and another $20 billion in loan financings, including green, sustainability-linked and transition funding deals across Asia.

“Javi brings deep expertise in capital markets and financing, as well as a strong understanding of institutional investors and financial markets. His experience will be valuable as we continue to grow AREIT and create long-term value for our stakeholders,” de Larrazabal said.

Financing AREIT’s next phase

Carballo will help sharpen AREIT’s financing strategy, manage its expanding property portfolio and broaden its sources of capital.

“We have always believed that the strength of a REIT is not only in the quality of its assets, but also in how effectively it manages capital and creates value over the long term,” de Larrazabal said.

“Strengthening our organization with this depth of capital markets expertise positions AREIT to continue building on its strong foundation," he added.
