Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) has turned to its former president and CEO Eugene Acevedo to fill a key leadership vacancy left by the death of prominent business leader and former prime minister Cesar Virata.

The Yuchengco-led bank appointed Acevedo as corporate vice chair effective Oct. 26, 2026, following approval by its board of directors at a regular meeting on the same day.

The appointment brings one of RCBC's most experienced executives into a senior board leadership role just over a year after he stepped down as president and CEO on June 30, 2025.

Acevedo, 62, has remained an RCBC director since July 2019, giving the bank continuity as it fills the position previously held by Virata.

Banking veteran returns to a bigger role

With 35 years of banking experience, Acevedo has held senior roles at Union Bank of the Philippines, CitySavings Bank, Philippine National Bank and Citibank across the Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong.

His appointment also keeps the vice chairmanship in the hands of a veteran executive familiar with RCBC's operations and corporate strategy.

A physics graduate of the University of San Carlos, Acevedo earned his master's degree in business administration from the Asian Institute of Management and attended Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.

He also serves as advisory dean of Mapúa University's business schools while pursuing further doctoral studies in business administration.
