In a statement released Wednesday night, the group cited data indicating a 14% year-on-year increase in air cargo business in the region, outpacing other markets.
This rise contributed to the overall global air cargo demand growth of 11.1% compared to April 2023, marking the fifth consecutive month of double-digit increases, IATA said.
The Asia-Pacific region saw notable demand increases on key routes, with intra-Asia demand up by 13.2% and Asia-Europe routes growing by 17.7%.
Capacity in the region also expanded by 7.8% year-on-year, supporting the surge in demand, the group said.
IATA director general Willie Walsh highlighted the positive economic indicators, such as improving metrics for global manufacturing output and new export orders, which have contributed to the robust performance of the air cargo sector.
These developments suggest a sustained demand trajectory, bolstered by stable inflation rates and rising industrial production, he explained.
