The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said on Sunday that it is investigating reports of alleged unfair treatment of baggage porters employed by a third-party service provider at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The complaints, received by NNIC, involve the service provider responsible for baggage porterage and retrieval, the private operator of Manila’s main aviation gateway said on Dec. 29, 2024.

The provider’s contract, renewed by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) in 2022, is valid until 2025.

“These porters are not directly employed by NNIC, but we take these complaints seriously,” NNIC said in a statement. “As the airport operator, we have a responsibility to maintain standards and ensure that all service providers treat their employees fairly, respect their rights, and comply with labor laws.”

Since taking over NAIA operations on September 14, 2024, NNIC has prioritized improving conditions for its directly employed workers. The company has implemented higher compensation and workplace policies to promote fairness and professionalism.

NNIC emphasized its commitment to fostering a modern, efficient airport environment that benefits both workers and travelers. It aims to build a workplace that reflects its vision of fairness, respect, professionalism, and accountability, the company added.
