AirAsia Philippines is bracing for one of the country’s busiest travel seasons by scaling up domestic flight frequencies ahead of the Undas holiday rush.

The airline announced increases across key routes, with Manila–Caticlan flights rising from 46 to 54 per week, Cebu from 47 to 56, and Iloilo from 28 to 32. Other provincial routes, including Tacloban, Tagbilaran, Puerto Princesa, Kalibo, and Cagayan de Oro, also saw added flights.

Why it matters

Undas is more than a long weekend. It’s a cultural migration — millions of Filipinos returning home to provinces, reuniting with family, and observing traditions that remain central to Filipino life. For airlines, this translates into a surge in demand and a logistical test of efficiency.

Last year, AirAsia recorded an 83 percent load factor during Undas, and with travel rebounding post-pandemic, expectations are even higher this year. The airline’s move to increase frequencies highlights how carriers are adjusting to renewed mobility and shifting consumer priorities toward convenience and reliability.

Travel Smart tips for passengers

To help travelers navigate the peak-season chaos, AirAsia issued practical reminders:

  • Book early. Secure flights at least a month ahead to get better fares.
  • Check baggage allowance. Weigh bags before departure; buy add-ons via the AirAsia MOVE app to avoid counter fees.
  • Check in online. Skip long queues by using the app and head straight to bag drop.
  • Arrive early. Expect longer lines; arrive two hours before domestic flights, three hours for international.

This mix of operational upgrades and travel hacks underscores a key reality: air travel remains essential infrastructure for family-centered traditions — and airlines like AirAsia are stepping up to keep Filipinos moving. – Princess Daisy C. Ominga | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
