  • Emperador rejoins the FTSE Global Equity Index Series as a Small Cap constituent.
  • Andrew Tan’s liquor giant is the only new Philippine addition to the FTSE Small Cap segment.
  • The comeback could widen Emperador’s reach among foreign institutional and index-linked funds.

Billionaire Andrew Tan’s Emperador Inc. is returning to a major global stock index, potentially putting the liquor giant back on the radar of more foreign funds.

Emperador will re-enter the FTSE Global Equity Index Series as a Small Cap constituent following FTSE’s latest Asia-Pacific ex-Japan ex-China semiannual review announced on Aug. 21.

It is the only Philippine company newly added to the FTSE Small Cap segment in this review, placing the stock within FTSE’s Small Cap and All Cap benchmark universes.

“The company remains focused on broadening its institutional investor base, improving market liquidity and strengthening its investable market capitalization over time,” Emperador said in a regulatory filing n Monday.

The inclusion could broaden Emperador’s exposure to institutional investors and index-linked funds while helping improve trading liquidity.

Emperador, valued at about $3.8 billion, is Andrew Tan’s global liquor business behind brands such as Emperador Brandy and Fundador, alongside Scotch whisky labels under Whyte & Mackay, with operations spanning the Philippines, United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico and other markets.

The dual-listed company, traded on both the Philippine Stock Exchange and Singapore Exchange, is the global liquor arm of Tan’s Alliance Global Group, whose portfolio also spans property through Megaworld, gambling through Travellers International, and fast food via McDonald's Philippines.
