PNB Holdings taps First Gen for renewable energy supply

PNB Holdings Corp. (PHC) has tapped First Gen Group to supply more than 5 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to two of its key properties in Metro Manila, advancing the Philippine National Bank real estate arm’s shift toward more sustainable operations.

Under an agreement signed on Aug. 18, First Gen will provide geothermal power to the PNB Financial Center along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City and the PNB Makati Center along Ayala Avenue in the Makati central business district.

The renewable energy will be sourced from First Gen’s Tongonan geothermal facility in Leyte.

PNB Holdings Corp. (PHC) has partnered with the First Gen Group (First Gen) for direct supply of geothermal energy from First Gen to two of PHC’s prime properties: the PNB Financial Center in Pasay City and the PNB Makati Center in Makati City. Greener properties

PHC chief financial officer Ponciano Carreon Jr. said the agreement would enable the two properties to transition to 100 percent renewable energy while maintaining operational efficiency and reliability.

“PNB Holdings’ transition to 100 percent renewable energy across PNB Financial Center and PNB Makati Center through our partnership with First Gen reflects our commitment to more sustainable and responsible property operations, while maintaining efficiency and reliability. We believe this move will help reduce our environmental impact and support our goal of building more resilient and future-ready properties,” Carreon said.

The deal also expands First Gen’s renewable energy partnership with companies under the Lucio Tan Group (LTG).

First Gen already supplies the renewable energy requirements of LTG companies including Philippine Airlines, Lufthansa Technik Philippines, Macroasia SATS Food Industries Corp., Macroasia Catering Services Inc., Grandspan Development Corp., Absolut Distillers and Eton Properties.

Broader partnership

First Gen head of sales and engagement Arlene Soriano said the company was looking to support PHC’s decarbonization efforts as it invests in more sustainable property developments.

“It is our privilege to broaden our partnership with LTG through our partnership with PNB Holdings. We look forward to supporting PHC in its journey towards decarbonization as they continue to invest in community experience and workspace environment and future-proof its property developments through sustainability-led innovations,” Soriano said.

First Gen has more than 1,700 MW of generating capacity from 31 hydro, geothermal, solar and wind facilities nationwide.

Apart from supplying renewable electricity, the company offers businesses energy-management solutions, including on-site solar photovoltaic systems, remote energy monitoring and energy audits aimed at improving energy efficiency. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
