The deal will shift TÜV Rheinland's main Philippine office in Magallanes, Makati City, to 100 percent renewable electricity, helping the company cut emissions from its local operations.
It also highlights a business opportunity for electricity suppliers as companies seeking to meet environmental commitments look beyond traditional power arrangements.
A growing market for clean power
The switch was arranged through the government's Retail Competition and Open Access program, which allows qualified large electricity users to shop for suppliers rather than buy power solely through their local distributor.
For TÜV Rheinland, which tests and certifies other companies' compliance with environmental standards, the agreement brings its own electricity consumption in line with the practices it promotes to clients.
ACEN builds its customer base
The electricity will be supplied through ACEN RES, the retail arm of ACEN, which has renewable energy projects across the Philippines and other Asia-Pacific markets.
ACEN has 7.5 gigawatts of attributable renewable energy capacity across operating, construction-stage and contracted projects, although neither company disclosed the deal's value, duration or electricity volume.
