The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is opening the Ninoy Aquino International Airport runways for 24 hours to help airlines address their flight backlogs after operations were halted due to an air traffic control software glitch.
A total of 36 domestic and 20 international flights were affected by the technical issue, which was discovered before noon today and resolved after 2:00 p.m.
MIAA General Manager Eric Ines has directed all terminal managers to provide additional seating and implement contingency measures in accordance with the irregular operations manual. This includes the distribution of malasakit kits to passengers.
