Under Department Circular No. 2024-05-0014, the mandatory coco methyl ester (CME) blend will rise to 3% by October 1, 2024, to 4% by October 1, 2025, and to 5% by October 1, 2026.
This initiative aims to reduce dependence on imported fuels, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and support local biodiesel producers and coconut farmers, the department said in a statement Monday afternoon.
The higher blend is expected to create a significant market for coconut products, improve mileage, and generate economic benefits, it explained.
