Insider Spotlight

  • Alternergy received all five DOE certificates of award for its GEA 4 wins
  • Projects cover wind, aqua-voltaic, and solar battery assets nationwide
  • Early approvals signal readiness for full-scale development

Vince Perez-led Alternergy Holdings Corp. has secured all five certificates of award from the Department of Energy for its winning projects under the Green Energy Auction (GEA) 4 program, placing the renewable energy firm among the earliest recipients of full DOE approval for the latest auction round.

The certificates, received early in January, formally confirm Alternergy’s auction wins after the company completed and submitted all post-auction requirements, including system impact studies and performance bonds, ahead of the original December deadline.

Why it matters

Certificates of Award are a key regulatory milestone, signaling that projects can move from auction wins to full-scale development. Early issuance strengthens Alternergy’s execution timeline as the Philippines accelerates capacity additions to meet growing power demand and renewable energy targets.

By the numbers

The five GEA 4 projects represent a combined 500 megawatts of new renewable capacity, directly supporting Alternergy’s stated goal of delivering one green gigawatt of operational capacity by 2030.

What they’re saying

“This demonstrates the readiness of all our projects for full-scale development works and Alternergy’s commitment to bringing these projects to fruition,” said Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua. “With all five certificates of award on hand, this is a key milestone that our GEA 4 projects have been formally awarded.”

Zoom in

Alternergy’s GEA 4 portfolio includes two onshore wind projects, two aqua-voltaic floating solar projects, and one solar-plus-battery facility spread across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Among the most notable are the Liberty Floating Solar Phase A and Phase B projects in Tarlac, positioned to be among the country’s earliest large-scale floating solar installations integrated with aquaculture.

The company will also develop the Kalandagan solar plus battery energy storage system in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat, building on its experience from a battery-integrated project that entered commercial operations in 2024.

What’s next

Two new wind projects are part of the auction wins, including the Tayabas North Wind Project in Quezon and the Alegria Wind Project in Cebu, with combined capacity exceeding 200 megawatts. These come as Alternergy advances construction of its Tanay and Alabat wind projects, both targeted for completion this year.

The big picture

Alternergy’s early receipt of all Certificates of Award highlights its execution capability at a time when competition for grid access, financing, and regulatory clearances is intensifying. As the company scales its diversified renewable portfolio, timely project approvals strengthen its position as one of the Philippines’ most aggressive pure-play renewable energy developers.  — Ed: Daxim L.
