Foundations tied to the family of the late George SK Ty  are putting P75 million behind efforts to tackle some of the Philippines’ most pressing grassroots challenges, from struggling learners and healthcare gaps to fragile livelihoods and disaster preparedness.

Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI) and GT Foundation Inc. (GTFI) are extending the funding to 35 social development partners, using Metrobank’s 64th anniversary to deepen investments aimed at creating opportunities and building more resilient Filipino communities.

Why it matters

The grants channel corporate resources toward organizations addressing challenges in education, healthcare, livelihoods, disaster management and community development, areas the foundations see as critical to long-term nation-building.

Metrobank Foundation president and GT Foundation executive director Philip Francisco U. Dy said the foundations base their investments on challenges observed in communities.

“Through our work on the ground, we continue to hear and see the realities that communities face every day—from families seeking better access to healthcare and nutrition, and learners studying in overcrowded classrooms or struggling with basic reading skills, to farmers and fisherfolk working hard to earn a living while facing barriers to productivity and income, and communities striving to prepare for increasingly frequent and complex disasters,” Dy said.

The big picture

MBFI, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Metrobank Group, focuses its programs on health, education, livelihood and disaster management while pursuing strategic partnerships that address evolving community needs.

GTFI, meanwhile, carries forward the philanthropic legacy of Metrobank founder Dr. George S.K. Ty, with programs centered on education, access to health, community development and legacy initiatives.

“These are not isolated concerns. Addressing challenges of this scale requires more than good intentions. It calls for strategic investments, innovative solutions, and a willingness to act where the need is greatest,” Dy said.

What’s next

GTFI’s initiatives this year will seek to expand educational opportunities, develop industry-relevant skills, improve healthcare access and respond to community needs nationwide.

“As these challenges grow more complex, our response must be just as purposeful. This is why we continue to invest in areas where we believe we can create the greatest impact—and work with partners who share our commitment to uplifting lives and building stronger, more resilient communities.” —Ramon C.
