San Miguel deploys over P20M in food aid for storm-hit Luzon, Visayas

🟧 Insider Spotlight:

  • P20.29M worth of food assistance mobilized by San Miguel Corp.
  • Over 47,000 individuals served through soup kitchens
  • Distribution ongoing across 28 cities and 25 municipalities

San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has deployed over ₱20 million worth of food assistance to areas affected by typhoon Emong, tropical storm Crising, and continuous monsoon rains. The effort, led by the San Miguel Foundation, is being coordinated with local governments and partner groups to ensure fast, targeted distribution.

Why it matters:

Flooding has disrupted livelihoods across Luzon and the Visayas, displacing thousands and cutting off access to food in many communities. SMC’s relief initiative aims to close this gap while complementing government response efforts.

Zoom in:

  • P16.9 million in food products already distributed
  • P2.3 million allocated for hot meals via soup kitchens, reaching 47,000 people
  • P1 million in grocery packs to benefit 2,000 families

Where it’s going:

The food relief covers all 16 cities and the lone municipality in Metro Manila, 4 cities and 21 towns in Bulacan, and at least 12 other provinces including Pampanga, Batangas, Cavite, Rizal, Ilocos Norte, Cebu, and Negros Occidental.

What they’re saying:

“Our priority is to make assistance immediately available to families displaced or unable to work due to the severe weather and flooding. We are using our network, facilities, and volunteers to ensure we help as many families as we can,” said SMC chair and CEO Ramon S. Ang.

The big picture:

SMC has also intensified its flood mitigation program, having removed over 8.5 million tons of waste from 10 river systems since 2020, including the Tullahan, Pasig, and Pampanga rivers.
