What started as a humble initiative inspired by SM’s origins in shoe retail has grown into a nationwide, multi-sectoral program tackling urgent needs in education, livelihood, and health.
Since its launch, Shop & Share has distributed 31,000 brand-new shoes to students, 11,000 learning toys, 1,200 sets of agricultural tools, and 5,000 hygiene kits to underserved communities across the country.
For the upcoming school year, Shop & Share is set to distribute 15,400 back-to-school kits to more than 70 public schools nationwide, leveraging the nationwide footprint of SM’s 77 department store branches.
“Since its inception, SM Store’s Shop & Share program has enabled customers to take part in purposeful giving,” said SM Retail Inc. president Jonathan H. Ng. “It brings to life SM’s commitment to being a catalyst for positive change, rooted in the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, where compassion and community move hand in hand.”
It enables customers to contribute to community development through their shopping activities.
The program works across the SM Group ecosystem by partnering with other business units: SM Stationery for back-to-school kits, SM Fashion for Share Shoes, Toy Express under Toy Kingdom for Share a Toy, and this year, SM Beauty for the creation of new family essential kits.
In December 2024, Shop & Share collaborated with Toy Kingdom, World Vision Philippines, Good Neighbors Philippines, the Rotary Club, and SM Foundation’s partner public schools to distribute 6,000 brand-new educational toys to special education (SPED) schools and typhoon-affected communities.
The program also launched its Tech Education campaign in September 2024, in partnership with Mastercard, establishing four digital learning hubs with 19 computers each in SM Foundation partner schools—benefiting nearly 10,000 students and teachers.
The SM Advantage Card (SMAC), SM’s loyalty program, has also supported this movement through its partnership with Globe’s Hapag Movement, alongside SM Retail brands such as Kultura, Our Home, Surplus, Crate and Barrel, and others. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
