Airlines are working to restore normal flight operations after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) resolved an air traffic software glitch that disrupted trips for a few hours on Monday afternoon.

“With the restoration of Manila radar operations by government authorities, we are working towards normalizing our flight operations,” Philippine Airlines spokesperson Celia Villaluna said in a statement.

“We are closely coordinating with the aviation authorities on the adjustment of flight schedules and clearances,” she added.

Naia handles over 120,000 passengers daily and close to 800 flights.

In a separate statement, AirAsia Philippines said CAAP advised them of the technical issue around 12:00 noon on Monday, prompting the suspension of all arriving and departing aircraft.

“Flights originating from the different local and domestic destinations of AirAsia likewise experienced disruptions. By 2:40 p.m., the airline received confirmation that the issue had been resolved and normal air navigation had resumed,” the carrier said.

AirAsia Philippines spokesperson and first officer Steve Dailisan said disruptions were managed through timely announcements to their passengers.

“AirAsia expects the situation to normalize very soon. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our guests as the delays are beyond our control. Likewise, we thank our aviation authorities for immediately resolving the technical issue,” Dailisan said.
