The 50th Philippine Business Conference and Expo celebrated industry leaders and trailblazers driving impactful change.
The “Country Movers” award honored conglomerates advancing national progress through job creation, poverty reduction, and sustainable growth initiatives.
Uy received the PCCI Country Mover award from Secretary Frederick D. Go, special assistant to the president for investment and economic affairs, alongside PCCI president consul Enunina V. Mangio, PCCI chair and awards chair George T. Barcelon, and PBCE chair Raymund Jude G. Aguilar.
The challenger becomes a giant
“Even before Converge was established, when I was building my cable network and ICT companies in Pampanga, my mind was set on leveraging technology to serve the needs of the Filipino people,” said Uy, who co-founded Converge with his spouse Maria Grace Uy.
“Our entry into the fixed broadband market really challenged the giant telco companies as we offered the best and latest connectivity solution which is fiber internet, so that really broadened the access of more Filipinos to reliable and quality internet connectivity,” he added.
Ramping up government partnerships
“In the past two years as well, we’ve strengthened our collaborations with the government, to ensure they use our superior connectivity to power up the delivery of public services,” Uy said.
“The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), of course, is a partner in providing public-access internet, and so is the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the free public WiFi in airports, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for their revenue district offices, and more recently, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for digital solutions for micro, small, and medium enterprises,” he said.
Award highlights importance of ICT development
Converge shifted from mass-market offerings in 2023 to pioneering cloud services, data centers, and advanced fiber solutions.
In 2024, it unveiled enterprise innovations tailored for hospitality and home businesses.
“We’re proud to name Converge as among the country’s influential movers, triggering a shift in digitalization and broadband adoption in the Philippines in the last few years,” Mangio said.
“ICT is an important sector that we in the PCCI are closely monitoring as we push for businesses active in these sectors to thrive and contribute to overall development,” he added.
