West Zone water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has earned global recognition, clinching the “SDG6 Champion of the Year” award at the 2025 Global Water Awards, held during the Global Water Summit in Paris.

The honor celebrates Maynilad’s outstanding efforts to advance Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) through its internal sustainability initiative.

The winning entry, Maynilad’s “Makialam, Makiisa, Magmalasakit” (3M) Campaign, mobilized employees company-wide to help achieve the utility’s ambitious 2024 targets. The campaign emphasized engagement (“Makialam”), unity (“Makiisa”), and care (“Magmalasakit”), fostering a culture of accountability and sustainability at all levels of the organization.

Key operational results under the 3M initiative included a significant reduction in non-revenue water—from 43 percent to 39 percent—achieved through pipe replacement, AI-driven leak detection, and accelerated repairs.

The campaign also supported the production of 1 billion liters of potable water via Maynilad’s New Water reuse facilities, reducing dependence on Angat Dam amid the recurring El Niño conditions.

“This campaign helped translate sustainability goals into tangible results by aligning individual action with corporate purpose,” said Maynilad chief sustainability officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu. “This recognition affirms our commitment to building a resilient and inclusive water future.”

Maynilad has previously earned distinctions at the Global Water Awards for its Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2 (Award of Distinction, 2020), Parañaque New Water Treatment Plant (Water Reuse Project of the Year, 2023), and Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (Water Project of the Year, 2024).
