Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its low-cost subsidiary, Scoot, are doubling down on customer experience, innovation and operational resilience as the carriers seek to strengthen their respective positions in the full-service and budget airline markets.

The focus comes as SIA was named the World’s Best Airline at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, its sixth time receiving the recognition. Scoot was also named the World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline for the sixth consecutive year.

Why it matters

The awards, announced in London on Sept. 18, were based on a survey of more than 24.8 million travelers who rated over 300 airlines between September 2025 and August 2026.

SIA also received recognition as Best Airline in Asia, World’s Best Economy Class and World’s Best Economy Class Onboard Catering.

SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said in a statement that the airline remained focused on maintaining its service and operational standards.

“We are grateful to our customers for their trust and support, and we are committed to delivering an exceptional, world-class travel experience every time they fly with us,” Goh said.

What’s next

Scoot, meanwhile, plans to continue innovating, strengthening its operational resilience and improving the customer experience as it seeks to reinforce its position in the low-cost airline market.

In the same statement, Scoot CEO Leslie Thng said its latest recognition reflected the carrier’s efforts to provide comfortable, reliable and seamless travel.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said the recognition received by both airlines reflected their product and service performance.

The big picture

The results give the Singapore Airlines Group third-party validation of its customer-service strategy across two distinct market segments: SIA’s full-service operations and Scoot’s low-cost business.

For both carriers, the challenge will be translating that customer recognition into sustained service standards as they pursue their respective growth strategies. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
