Why it matters
The approach earned Maya recognition for a third consecutive year at the HR Excellence Awards Philippines. At the 2026 awards, the digital financial services company received Silver for Excellence in Performance Management Evolution and Bronze for Excellence in the Use of HR Tech, according to a company release.
The big picture
Maya is moving everyday transactions that once required manual HR intervention into self-service systems. Employees can generate commonly requested documents, including Certificates of Employment for travel, banking and loan requirements, while managers can initiate transfers, promotions and other team changes directly.

AI-assisted checks are being used to flag inconsistencies in BIR Form 2316 submissions, allowing HR teams to focus on exceptions rather than manually reviewing every entry. AI is also being used for LinkedIn recruitment sourcing and market data.
The technology push extends beyond administrative work. Maya has shifted performance management away from relying primarily on traditional year-end reviews, with managers expected to discuss priorities and progress throughout the year and provide feedback while employees can still act on it.
Career development is also becoming more structured. Maya’s Career Growth Navigation framework lays out expectations for an employee’s current role, what readiness for the next level looks like and possible career paths, including specialist roles, lateral moves and leadership.
“There are things employees should be able to do without waiting for HR, and technology helps us get those out of the way,” said Charee Lanza, people group head at Maya. “But there are also things you cannot automate—good feedback, coaching, career conversations and important people decisions. We want our teams spending more time on those.”
Between the lines
Maya is positioning AI as a way to handle repetitive work while keeping decisions that require context and judgment with people.
At the Grand Hyatt Manila awards, Maya was also named a finalist in five categories covering Employee Engagement, Employer Branding, Leadership Development, Talent Acquisition and Talent Management. —Princess Daisy C. Ominga| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
