The PLDT Group's wireless arm launched PureVoice on November 6, allowing Infinity members to filter out background noise during regular calls even on older phones without built-in noise cancellation.
The service removes distractions such as traffic, crowds and music without requiring a separate app or additional setup, with users simply pressing 8# during a call to turn the feature on or off.
Giving voice calls an upgrade
“Voice remains the quintessential service of any telecommunications company,” Smart officer-in-charge Lloyd R. Manaloto said in a statement on Friday.
The launch gives Smart Infinity another exclusive feature as the telecommunications company seeks to offer premium customers more than just mobile data allowances and network connectivity.
Smart plans to expand PureVoice beyond Infinity subscribers but has not announced when the service will become available to other customers or whether additional charges will apply.
Building on network investments
The rollout follows Smart's introduction of Voice over LTE in 2020, allowing subscribers to use mobile data during calls, and Video over LTE, which enables video calls directly through a phone's dialer.
Smart also reported zero dropped calls in the latest National Telecommunications Commission quality tests in Metro Manila, although those results do not measure the performance of PureVoice's noise cancellation technology.
