Globe Telecom has entered into a strategic partnership with Japan’s KDDI Corporation to explore new growth opportunities in mobile services and transform the retail experience in the Philippines. The collaboration supports Globe’s strategy to strengthen customer engagement by combining digital innovation with enhanced physical stores.

The partnership comes two years after Globe streamlined parts of its retail network as more customers shifted to digital channels. Instead of simply reopening stores, the company aims to redefine the role of physical retail in an increasingly connected market.

Why it matters

The collaboration gives Globe access to KDDI’s expertise in one of the world’s most advanced telecommunications and digital ecosystems while supporting its ambition to expand beyond traditional connectivity services.

“Globe has always believed that growth goes hand in hand with elevating our over-all customer experience philosophy,” Globe president and CEO Carl Cruz said in a press statement over the weekend. “This strategic partnership with KDDI gives us the opportunity to learn from one of the world’s most advanced telco and digital ecosystems, while bringing Globe’s deep understanding of the Filipino customer to the table.”

The Globe Telecom CEO wants growth an improved customer experience to go hand in hand.

“Together, we aim to explore new ways to make mobile services more relevant, retail experiences more seamless, and digital solutions more responsive to the evolving needs of Filipinos,” he added. “As we look toward 2027 and beyond, our goal is to create value that goes beyond connectivity and helps build a stronger, more inclusive digital ecosystem for the country.”

Globe and KDDI will explore how KDDI’s recurring revenue model, which integrates telecommunications with financial, entertainment, lifestyle, and other digital services, can complement Globe’s nationwide reach and mobile subscriber base of about 67 million customers.

The bottom line

The companies will initially focus on expanding Globe’s retail footprint and creating stores that combine digital convenience with personalized support, reinforcing Globe’s broader repositioning as a digital platform delivering integrated, value-driven customer experiences.
