The Palawan Group of Companies is strengthening its community engagement and social responsibility initiatives by combining sports participation with efforts to improve access to emergency healthcare in underserved communities.

The initiative gained momentum as more than 2,500 runners participated in the Puerto Princesa leg of the PalawanPay Trilogy Marathon on Oct. 18, marking a decade of the company's running events in the city where its business began.

'Malasakit in motion'

The marathon goes beyond promoting an active lifestyle by mobilizing employees, customers, business partners, and local communities around a shared social advocacy.

Through its Malasakit in Motion initiative, proceeds from the three-leg series will help fund fully equipped emergency ambulances for communities in Aklan and South Cotabato.

The initiative aims to strengthen access to emergency medical services in areas where additional healthcare resources are needed.

Beyond the workplace

The Puerto Princesa race followed the Cebu leg, reinforcing the company's efforts to integrate corporate social responsibility into community activities.

Palawan Group chief human resources officer Korina Castro-Fernando emphasized the importance of employee participation in initiatives beyond the workplace.

“It is encouraging to see our employees take part in the Trilogy Marathon alongside our founders, partners, and members of the community. Their participation reflects how our commitment to service extends beyond our day-to-day work. Through initiatives like this, we can help address community needs and encourage more people to take part in efforts that make a difference beyond their own workplaces,” Castro-Fernando said in a press statement.

Close ties with the City of Puerto Princesa

The event also highlighted the Palawan Group's longstanding relationship with Puerto Princesa, where its marathon initiative began through the Palawan Express Marathon.

The race was organized in partnership with the Puerto Princesa City Government as part of activities surrounding the Subaraw Festival on Nov. 26.

The Palawan Group operates more than 70,000 branches, remittance outlets, and PalawanPay Money Shops nationwide, supporting its financial services operations.
