Smart offers free data, calls to Filipinos in Saudi Arabia amid war

Filipinos in Saudi Arabia are getting free mobile data and calls home as the war involving Iran raises security concerns across the Middle East, prompting PLDT Inc.'s telecommunications units to extend emergency support.

Smart Communications is providing 1GB of free roaming data valid for five days, while PLDT Global is opening free calls to Philippine numbers and government assistance hotlines.

“Our priority is to help Filipinos overseas stay connected when they need it most. We are making it easier for our kababayans in Saudi Arabia to reach their loved ones and access critical support services as they navigate this situation,” said Albert V. Villa-Real, president and CEO of PLDT Global.

A lifeline back home

Through its Tindahan ni Bossing (TinBo) platform, PLDT Global is allowing Filipinos with a Smart Virtual Number to call PLDT landlines, Smart, TNT and other Philippine mobile numbers for free.

The service also covers the 1348 migrant workers' assistance helpline and 1343 anti-human trafficking hotline, giving overseas Filipinos a direct line to government agencies if they need help.

How to access

Smart subscribers can check their free data allocation at www.gigaroam.smart.com.ph, while TinBo users can seek assistance through Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.

PLDT Global and Smart said they are monitoring developments in Saudi Arabia and remain ready to extend further assistance.
