Insider Spotlight
Big Bad Wolf Books is betting on that opportunity as it brings an expanded selection of discounted books to Park Triangle Mall in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) from Nov. 5 to 15, marking its first sale in the business district.
Why it matters
Price remains a consideration in making books accessible, particularly for families and occasional readers. Big Bad Wolf is offering discounts of up to 95 percent, with selected titles starting at P60.
The strategy combines affordability with the experience of browsing physical shelves, something online recommendations cannot entirely replicate.
The bigger picture
Big Bad Wolf Books founder and executive director Jacqueline Ng has built the company's expansion around making reading more accessible through affordable books, bringing its large-scale sales model to markets across Asia and beyond.
The company's first BGC event extends that approach to a business district known for its mix of offices, residential communities, retail, and entertainment.
What's new
The upcoming sale will feature a wider range of international bestsellers, children's books, collectible editions, and hard-to-find titles.
Goldsboro Books will also bring limited first-edition signed copies and serial-numbered books to Filipino collectors.
The expanded selection is intended to attract both established readers and consumers interested in exploring new subjects, according to a company release.
The bigger picture
Big Bad Wolf is moving beyond traditional book lovers by connecting reading with everyday interests such as gaming, fitness, cooking, travel, and entrepreneurship.
Its theme, "There's a Book for Every Kind of You," reflects an effort to make books relevant to consumers who may not regularly visit bookstores.
Between the lines
The emphasis on discovery also gives physical book sales a competitive distinction from digital marketplaces, where purchases are often driven by search results and algorithms.
Big Bad Wolf partner Tim Yap encouraged consumers to “really immerse yourself in books” and consider “the gift of books,” which he described as “the gift of learning.”
By the numbers: Founded in Malaysia in 2009 by Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng, Big Bad Wolf has expanded to more than 55 cities across 17 countries.
What's next
The BGC sale will operate daily from 10 a.m. to midnight, with free admission, positioning the event to capture holiday shopping demand while promoting wider access to reading. —Princess Daisy C. Ominga | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
