The newly launched Connectivity Champions initiative celebrates individuals and organizations that drive meaningful access to connectivity, reflecting Globe's mission to make reliable internet access a universal right rather than a privilege.
The inaugural awardees were selected based on their significant impact in areas such as internet accessibility, innovation, sustainability, scalability, and community influence.
"Through Connectivity Champions, we hope to amplify the efforts of those who have gone above and beyond in their roles to push for reliable and equitable access to connectivity in the country. Their work reflects Globe’s goal of ensuring that connectivity becomes a right, not a privilege," said Michelle Ora, Globe vice president and head of strategic partnerships and programs.
2024 Connectivity Champions
Connectivity Visionary: Delfin Angelo C. Wenceslao
The award is given to real estate developers who advocate for connectivity as a basic service, build internet-ready infrastructure, and support policy reforms.
As president and CEO of D.M. Wenceslao and Associates Inc., Wenceslao was honored for his advocacy in establishing fiber-ready infrastructure and promoting policy reforms.
Under his leadership, Aseana City, a master-planned community, became a model of seamless connectivity, blending advanced telecommunications infrastructure with resilient urban design.
"We are building a connected city. And building one involves creating an ecosystem that prioritizes seamless communication, digital access, and modern infrastructure," he said.
“Connectivity is a non-negotiable requirement for tenants and customers. A strong telco partner like Globe helps us deliver on this expectation by providing robust and scalable solutions,” he said.
Connectivity Trailblazer: Guillermo “Bill” Luz
Chair of Liveable Cities Philippines, Luz has been instrumental in advancing technology-driven urban development. His leadership in the Liveable Cities Program champions intelligent city frameworks, ensuring connectivity is treated as an essential utility.
Luz’s work extends to disaster-prone areas, reinforcing the role of connectivity in emergency response and citizen welfare.
He said for a city to be competitive, every building must come with built-in connectivity.
“Connectivity is no longer optional; it’s a necessity,” Luz emphasized.
Digital transformation award: Ernesto V. Perez
Director general of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), Perez was recognized for policy reforms streamlining telecom infrastructure deployment. By digitizing permits and advocating shared telecom towers, Perez facilitated cost reductions and expanded connectivity, especially in underserved areas.
"Connectivity is the backbone of the modern economy,” Perez said. “By investing in connectivity today, we can prepare for a future where technology is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of our lives. However, it is crucial to ensure that this digital transformation is equitable and inclusive.”
Championing universal connectivity
The Connectivity Champions initiative bolsters Globe’s broader efforts, such as the Zero Lease program, which eliminates cost barriers for hosting telecom infrastructure.
