The Magis Award recognizes individuals whose life’s work exemplifies principled leadership and an unwavering dedication to service. The Latin term “Magis” refers to the pursuit of excellence and going above and beyond for the greater good—values that have defined Sobrepeña’s three-decade leadership at MBFI.
Under his stewardship, MBFI has become a nationally respected corporate philanthropic institution known for impactful initiatives in education, the arts, and social development.
Sobrepeña was specifically lauded for advancing the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos program, the country’s premier recognition for exemplary teachers, police officers, and military personnel who demonstrate service beyond excellence.
"Mr. Chito Sobrepeña is that rare kind of leader who doesn’t just build institutions—he uplifts lives and quietly shapes a better nation,” said Karlo Benjamin Nisce, president of the Rotary Club of New Manila East.
RCNME has been a longstanding partner of MBFI, actively supporting the Outstanding Filipinos program, particularly in championing the dignity and integrity of public service professionals.
In accepting the award, Sobrepeña said, “To receive The Magis of Rotary Lifetime Distinction Award is both affirming and challenging. Magis, the call to do more in the service of others... to go further... to give greater, has always echoed through the work we do at Metrobank Foundation.” —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
