PAL’s admission will make it the 16th member of the global airline alliance and only the second full member carrier based in Southeast Asia. The move strengthens the alliance’s presence in the region while giving PAL customers access to an extensive global network of nearly 1,000 destinations across more than 170 countries and territories.
Why it matters
The partnership is expected to boost PAL’s international profile, expand passenger traffic opportunities, improve loyalty offerings, and create operational efficiencies. It also positions the airline alongside some of the world’s largest and most recognized carriers.
“This is a defining and transformative moment for Philippine Airlines,” PAL Holdings Inc. president Lucio Tan III said in a statement issued by the airline on Sunday, June 7, 2026. “Becoming a member of the oneworld Alliance and strengthening Southeast Asia’s representation within the group significantly brings the Philippines and the region closer to the world like never before. Together with our partners, we will deliver greater choice, consistent journeys, and a world-class travel experience that reflects the warmth of Filipino hospitality.”
American Airlines CEO and chair of the oneworld governing board Robert Isom welcomed PAL’s entry, citing its strategic importance in expanding connectivity across Asia-Pacific markets.
“Philippine Airlines’ entry into oneworld supports our long-term strategic growth and strengthens our connectivity across key markets in the Asia Pacific region,” he said. “The airline has a proud heritage and will serve a critical role in our Southeast Asia network.”
What’s next
For travelers, membership will deliver smoother connections across alliance airlines, access to premium lounges, and expanded loyalty rewards. Mabuhay Miles members will be able to earn and redeem miles throughout the oneworld network, while eligible customers will gain priority services and access to more than 700 airport lounges worldwide.
“Philippine Airlines is a globally respected carrier with a strong commitment to innovation and customer service that aligns with oneworld’s reputation for delivering a premium experience across the travel journey,” oneworld chief executive officer Ole Orvér said. “This decision is an endorsement of oneworld, and its global customer offering. We look forward to welcoming Philippine Airlines into the alliance.”
PAL currently operates from hubs in Manila and Cebu, serving 29 domestic and 40 international destinations. The airline said joining oneworld reinforces its ambition to serve as a stronger bridge connecting the Philippines with the rest of the world.
