Cebu Pacific holds graduation-style ceremony for passengers who pack right

At NAIA Terminal 3, Cebu Pacific passengers discovered that following baggage rules could now earn them graduation honors.

Those whose bags slipped neatly into the airline’s new sizer were declared “BOARDING PASSers” before boarding Flight 5J 971 to Davao.

Then came the full ceremony: certificates from a fictional “Baggage Regulation Commission,” ceremonial “CEBlays” and an inspirational address from Cebie, the airline’s mascot.

The graduates even arrived in Davao to a giant congratulatory banner.

It was light, humorous moment but Cebu Pacific was making a pointed case about bags that do not fit.

Oversized luggage can turn boarding into a slow hunt for overhead space, hold up departures and leave aisles or emergency areas obstructed.

“Following hand carry guidelines may seem small, but it makes a big difference,” customer service operations vice president Lei Apostol said.

Passengers get two free cabin items: one bag measuring up to 56 cm × 36 cm × 23 cm for the overhead bin and a personal item measuring up to 20 cm × 20 cm × 35 cm for under the seat.

For everyone else, the lesson was clear: size the bag before Cebu Pacific grades it.
