The flag carrier was named Asia’s Leading Cultural Airline for 2026 at the World Travel Awards, adding to its credentials as it modernizes its fleet and upgrades passenger cabins.
“Receiving this recognition is a source of pride for Philippine Airlines and for the people who bring the Filipino spirit to life in every part of the journey,” PAL executive vice president and chief operating officer Carlos Luis Fernandez said in a statement on Monday.
“This award reflects the dedication of our employees who bring Filipino warmth to our passengers wherever PAL flies,” he added.
Up against Asia's biggest names
Other nominees included Korean Air, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Air China, China Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, SriLankan Airlines, Lao Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
The award highlights a different side of airline competition, where national identity and onboard hospitality can help carriers distinguish themselves beyond ticket prices and flight schedules.
For PAL, which marks its 85th year in 2026, the recognition comes as it invests in newer aircraft, improved cabin interiors and stronger international connectivity.
How the winner was chosen
The World Travel Awards selects winners through online voting by travel industry executives and consumer travel buyers, with votes from verified industry professionals carrying twice the weight of consumer votes.
All votes are internally audited, according to the awards organizer, with the cultural airline category recognizing carriers for incorporating their national culture into the passenger experience.
