AirAsia Philippines has officially completed the transfer of its international flight operations to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 as of March 29, marking a key operational shift timed with the Holy Week travel peak.
Why it mattersThe completed transition is expected to help decongest Terminal 3 while redistributing passenger traffic more efficiently across NAIA. It also reflects broader efforts by New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation to optimize terminal usage and improve the overall airport experience.
The big pictureAll AirAsia Philippines international flights—including check-in, boarding, and arrivals—are now handled at Terminal 1, while domestic services continue to operate from Terminal 2.
AirAsia Philippines CEO Capt. Suresh Bangah said the transition is designed to improve convenience.
What travelers should know
Passengers can use the airport’s free inter-terminal shuttle service, which runs every 15 to 30 minutes, to transfer between terminals. A dedicated shuttle is also in place to assist misrouted passengers during the transition period.
Bottom line
AirAsia Philippines’ completed “Big Switch” underscores a critical test of NAIA’s terminal rebalancing strategy, as both airline and airport operators navigate peak-season demand while aiming for smoother, more efficient passenger movement. – Princess Daisy C. Ominga | Ed. Miguel R. Camus
