The rare public clash raised questions about why a sitting director had taken his concerns public against the very company he is still tasked to help oversee.
“ABS-CBN’s entire workforce continues to focus on returning the company to solid footing. All these public accusations are painful distractions that take time and resources away from what is truly important to us,” the company said in a statement on Friday.
Boardroom clash spills public
“Instead of publicly calling out certain employees, and as a director of the company, Piki should just engage the board in constructive discussion,” ABS-CBN said in a statement on Friday.
“This public discussion is unfair to these employees and is uncalled for,” it added.
SEC complaint deepens tensions
The statement came after Piki Lopez’s camp filed a complaint before the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 6 seeking intervention in ABS-CBN through a proposed management committee and forensic audit over alleged questionable disbursements.
Earlier, the Lopez family majority revealed that Piki Lopez had proposed shutting down the company in 2025 as the network struggled to recover from the loss of its franchise.
In its statement on Friday, ABS-CBN defended its workforce and management, saying the board had “consistently commended” employees for their sacrifices and efforts to keep ABS-CBN afloat.
ABS-CBN pleads to stay out of feud
The media company also reiterated that the broader Lopez family dispute “does not involve ABS-CBN,” amid an escalating power struggle linked to other Lopez-controlled businesses and controversial energy-sector transactions involving tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.
“Huwag na po sanang idamay ang ABS-CBN sa isang away na hindi naman amin,” the company said.
