Insider Spotlight
Through GStocks PH, the investment platform within the GCash app, Filipino investors subscribed to nearly P15 million worth of preferred shares offered by Cebu-based energy and property developer Top Line Business Development Corp. (PSE: TOP) through AB Capital Securities Inc.
Why it matters
For issuers, digital platforms provide access to a much wider pool of retail investors beyond traditional brokerage clients.
For brokers, they expand distribution channels while simplifying the subscription process. For investors, they remove much of the paperwork and uncertainty that have historically discouraged participation in share offerings.
The results underscore that shift. GStocks PH said investors subscribed nearly 150,000 preferred shares across Top Line's two securities—TOPA1 and TOPA2—more than 1,000 percent of the broker's initial guaranteed allocation for the platform.
The details
Top Line's follow-on offering launched on June 26 and featured two preferred share classes carrying fixed annual dividend rates of 9.1325 percent and 9.5981 percent, respectively.
Both securities pay quarterly dividends and were offered through GStocks PH with a minimum investment of P1,000.
Unlike the traditional FOO process, where investors typically submit applications through brokers and wait until after the offer period to know whether shares have been allocated, GStocks PH enables users to complete digital registration and subscribe to guaranteed allocations while available. Investors may also place orders for non-guaranteed shares once the guaranteed allocation has been exhausted.
"Enabling Filipinos to make more informed decisions and giving them the tools they need to easily invest means creating opportunities for them to grow their hard earned money and build their long-term financial stability," Mynt group head of new businesses Winsley Bangit said in a statement.
Bangit said GStocks PH continues to simplify investing, allowing more users to participate in the Philippine stock market directly through the GCash app “with just a few taps.”
The bottom line
The Top Line offering illustrates how digital investment platforms are becoming an increasingly important distribution channel for Philippine capital markets.
By lowering barriers to participation while helping issuers and brokers reach more investors, GStocks PH is positioning itself as a bridge between listed companies seeking capital and Filipinos looking to grow their investments. —Ramon C. Nocon | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
