This has allowed the telco giant to integrate so-called microsleep and carrier shutdown technologies, which conserve energy by disabling power amplifiers during brief idle periods and shutting down capacity layers during extended low-traffic times.
This has allowed Globe to acheive power savings of 1-4 percent and 3-7 percent, respectively.
"We continue to integrate sustainability initiatives into our network plans to reduce the energy consumption of our equipment,” said Joel Agustin, Globe's senior vice president head of network planning and engineering.
Globe said power saving initiatives have contributed to the conservation of about 637 Megawatt-hours by end 2023, translating to a carbon footprint reduction of 464 metric tons of carbon dioxide
These form part of its broader commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
