Darius Jose R. Delgado, Globe’s chief commercial officer, emphasized the company’s focus on expanding services for the rapidly growing youth demographic, which constitutes a significant portion of the Philippine population.
The next growth wave
“There’s a lot of potential in terms of harnessing the power of the youth, which number around 42 million Gen-Zs in the Philippines, a third of the population,” Delgado said during the GSMA Digital Nation Summit in Manila on Tuesday.
“In the next five years we estimate around 11 million customers who are new [additions] to the mobile base,” he added. “That presents a huge opportunity in the consumer sector.”
Big picture
Young, tech-savvy customers present a key growth opportunity for Globe, as their ease with digital tools and apps aligns with the telco’s service expansion plans.
With the mobile business maturing, Globe’s mobile revenues posted single-digit growth of 5 percent in the first nine months.
Mobile data usage increased by 9 percent, boosting its share of total mobile revenues from 81 percent to 83 percent this year.
During this same period, traditional voice calls and text messaging dropped 5 percent and 13 percent, respectively.
Businesses: A growth area
Delgado said Globe is also looking to ramp up expansion in the enterprise sector, which includes small business owners.
The enterprise segment, which trails behind mobile, grew by 14 percent during the first nine months of 2024.
“Enterprises and SMEs [small and medium-sized businesses] are relative laggards in that space,” he said.
“Despite the fact we are highly penetrated in the market in terms of mobile data, there’s so much more that we can see,” he added.
