The rollout, which took effect on September 15, 2025, introduces “True 5G” built on a dedicated 5G core that promises lower latency, faster speeds, and higher capacity.
The network upgrade, part of PLDT Group’s broader modernization program, positions Iloilo as a test bed for advanced 5G applications and services.
Aside from the standalone launch, Smart also expanded 5G coverage and capacity across the city.
The debut was paired with a free concert at Festive Walk Parade that drew more than 5,200 people, underscoring how Smart is packaging its connectivity push with entertainment and lifestyle experiences.
The event also featured homegrown bands Kreonz and First Edition, Ilonggo DJ Young, and hit rap artist Flow G, with noontime host Jackie Gonzaga and veteran emcee Jordan Toledo leading the program.
By tying its 5G launch to an Ilonggo music festival, Smart highlighted its shift beyond traditional telco offerings into broader digital lifestyles.
The company said the 5G SA rollout in Iloilo is only the first step, with further deployments planned nationwide as demand for reliable digital services continues to rise.
