Businessman Mel Velarde’s NOW Telecom will appeal the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) order revoking its authority to operate a mobile network and recalling its assigned 5G frequency.

The move marks a major setback for the company’s telecom ambitions, effectively halting its nationwide mobile rollout.

In a disclosure from affiliate NOW Corp. on Thursday, the company confirmed it had received a copy of the NTC’s March 19, 2025 order denying its motion to extend its Provisional Authority (PA) to operate and maintain a mobile telecommunications system.

“NOW Telecom vehemently disagrees with the said NTC Order and will file a motion for reconsideration based on errors of law and fact and disregard of due process,” the company said in the filing.

The order declared NOW Telecom’s PA inoperative and recalled its 20 MHz frequency allocation (3520–3540 MHz), which the NTC clarified was not limited to 3G services.

The NTC earlier revoked NOW Telecom’s mobile license, citing years of unmet commitments, including delays in network rollout, failure to infuse required capital, and non-payment of regulatory fees.
