Businessman Mel Velarde's NOW Telecom is warning of potential US investigations after Philippine regulators revoked its mobile license over long-standing compliance failures.

In a May 2025 public advisory issued by the Trusted Network Alliance (TNA)—a group it co-founded—NOW Telecom invoked US cybersecurity interests in response to the cancellation of its license by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

“This advisory is issued following the sudden and unexplained cancellation of NOW Telecom’s license by the Philippine National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), despite its 25-year franchise and status as the only US-certified ‘clean network’ provider in the country,” listed affiliate NOW Corp. said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday.

“This action has triggered escalating concerns over violations of US compliance rules and is expected to lead to formal federal and state investigations,” it added.

TNA also advised business process outsourcing firms and US-affiliated companies in the Philippines to urgently review their telecom and IT contracts for possible use of banned or non-compliant equipment.

This comes despite a unanimous ruling by the NTC, which cited repeated non-compliance as the basis for its decision.

The NTC earlier declared NOW Telecom’s authority “inoperative” after it failed to meet rollout deadlines, financial obligations, and other key commitments. The regulator cited Republic Act No. 7925 and related laws allowing license revocation for non-compliance.
