This milestone has been critical in expanding Globe’s 5G and fiber infrastructure, supporting the growing demand for reliable and accessible connectivity across the Philippines, the company said in a statement on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024.
Since 2021, Globe has constructed over 4,000 cell towers and deployed more than 3 million fiber-to-home lines.
Michelle Ora, Globe’s vice president and head of strategic partnerships and programs, commended the government’s efforts to streamline permitting processes, particularly through EO 32.
“We are grateful for the government's efforts to streamline the permitting process,” she said. “In particular, we commend the President for issuing Executive Order No. 32, which has helped speed up the issuance of permits.”
Speaking at the 2024 Ease of Doing Business Convention, the Globe official urged local government units (LGUs) to adopt consistent standards for implementing EO 32.
Persistent challenges, including varying LGU requirements, absence of electronic business one-stop-shops, and excessive fees, continue to hinder infrastructure development in some areas. These issues result in delays and increased costs, slowing down progress in connecting underserved communities.
To address these barriers, Globe advocates for eliminating redundant requirements, reducing fees, and conducting more onboarding workshops with LGUs and homeowners’ associations. These efforts aim to deepen understanding of EO 32 and promote the development of telecom infrastructure.
Some LGUs, including Antipolo City, Bacoor City, and parts of Metro Manila, have streamlined their permitting processes, serving as models for other areas. However, Globe emphasized the need for nationwide uniformity to maximize the benefits of EO 32 and further support President Marcos’ vision for a digitally connected Philippines.
Globe remains committed to collaborating with the government, ARTA, and industry stakeholders to bridge the digital divide and ensure more Filipinos gain access to affordable and reliable telecommunications services, the firm said.
