The move could help address a growing vulnerability in mobile banking and online services, where fraudsters increasingly target SMS-based authentication through SIM-swap and interception attacks.
“Fraudsters today exploit weaknesses in legacy authentication methods,” said Atty. Adel Tamano, chief commercial officer of DITO Telecommunity.
“With Silent Network Authentication, verification happens directly through the DITO mobile network. This represents a major step forward in protecting subscribers and securing mobile transactions.”
The rollout was carried out with Shush and Twilio and was highlighted during a Mobile World Congress 2026 session in Barcelona focused on network APIs.
For telecom operators, authentication services are emerging as a potential new business line that allows networks to support digital platforms beyond basic connectivity.
DITO said financial institutions and digital platforms are already exploring the technology as they look for stronger ways to secure mobile transactions.
