PLDT's Smart boosts Batanes network to bridge digital gap in remote areas

Smart Communications, the wireless unit of PLDT Inc., is upgrading its LTE network in Batanes as part of a nationwide effort to close the digital gap in far-flung areas.

The northernmost province, known for its remote islands and rugged terrain, now benefits from improved mobile signal and free exclusive promos. The move supports the government’s push for digital inclusion as Batanes plays host to this year’s National ICT Month.

Smart has long faced logistical challenges in the province due to harsh weather and difficult topography, often requiring custom solutions to keep its signal stable. Now, residents, tourists, and local officials can access better voice, text, and data services.

“Our continued investments in Batanes reflect Smart’s deep commitment to nation-building,” said Anastacio R. Martirez, Smart chief operating officer.

“We are proud to support the government’s digital inclusion agenda by delivering reliable, value-for-money services tailored to the needs of our customers nationwide. This is part of our broader effort to improve the customer experience in far-flung areas and ensure that no Filipino is left behind in the digital age," he added.

Smart also rolled out a free promo for subscribers in the area, offering 2.5GB of data, 25 all-net call minutes, and 25 all-net texts for three days. The promo celebrates the 25th anniversary of value brand TNT and Smart’s 34th year in mobile service.
