Globe Telecom has completed the final transfer of telecom towers under its deal with Unity Digital Infrastructure, closing out one of its key sale and leaseback transactions that raised ₱1.45 billion from 121 sites.

Key details

    •    Unity has now acquired a total of 447 towers, completing its portion of Globe’s tower divestment program.

    •    Globe has turned over 6,849 out of 7,506 towers since 2022 under multiple sale agreements.

    •    These transfers have generated nearly ₱88 billion in proceeds for Globe.

    •    The remaining towers will be handed over to other partners once closing conditions are fulfilled.

Management’s view

“Completing the tower sale to Unity is a significant milestone that reflects our strong belief in collaborative partnerships,” Globe Telecom president and CEO Ernest Cu said in a statement.

“This move is not just about enhancing our financial flexibility and reinforcing fiscal responsibility; its paramount importance lies in the improved connectivity it enables across the Philippines through our work with tower companies like Unity,” he added.

Globe is going asset-light

The tower strategy is part of Globe’s capital recycling efforts to boost financial flexibility, reduce debt, and reinvest in network expansion.

Unity, a joint venture between Aboitiz InfraCapital and Swiss-based Partners Group, operates shared telecom infrastructure to support industry-wide connectivity.
