Taipan Lucio Tan’s Philippine National Bank has named Edwin R. Bautista as its next president and CEO, signaling a stronger focus on tech-driven innovation and consumer banking.

Bautista, the CEO behind UnionBank’s pivot to digital platforms and retail expansion, oversaw the acquisition of Citibank Philippines’ consumer business, significantly expanding the bank’s retail base.

“Mr. Bautista brings with him a wealth of experience from Union Bank of the Philippines where he played a pivotal role in driving the bank’s digital transformation and expanding its retail banking,” PNB said in a statement.

“His appointment signals PNB’s commitment to innovation, customer-centric banking, and long-term sustainable growth,” it added.

He succeeds Florido P. Casuela, who steered the bank through the post-pandemic period. Casuela stay on as board advisor, according to PNB.

PNB, which turns 109 years old this year, remains “dedicated to modernizing its operations, enhancing financial services, and strengthening its position as one of the country’s premier banking institutions.”
