Across its offices in Makati and Taguig, as well as in partner communities in Bulacan and Metro Manila, the organization is aligning its local initiatives with ING’s global focus on climate action, responsible finance, and inclusive growth.
Workplace shift
As economies transition toward a low-carbon future, ING Hubs Philippines is embedding sustainability into everyday decision-making. The organization supports this shift by encouraging employees to adopt environmentally conscious habits while contributing to broader ESG goals.
Central to this effort is the internally developed Carbon Absorption and Reduction (CAR) Tool, which allows employees to track their environmental actions. In 2025, the tool recorded an estimated 1.17 million kilograms of carbon absorbed or emissions avoided through activities such as sustainable commuting, energy-saving practices, tree planting, and digital clean-ups.
While the figures are based on standardized estimates and not used as offsets, they provide a tangible way to measure collective impact. In 2026, the platform is set to expand into a broader ESG Tool, capturing not only environmental efforts but also social and governance contributions such as volunteering, donations, and circular practices.
Energy measures
Sustainability is also reflected in operational adjustments. This year, the company reduced onsite presence in its Makati and Taguig offices from 50 percent to 40 percent, helping lower energy consumption while maintaining workplace flexibility.
ING Hubs Philippines also reports sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity on a market-based basis through renewable energy certificate arrangements with its lessors, contributing to a full reduction in Scope 2 emissions. In parallel, the company cut air travel emissions by nearly 39 percent, exceeding its internal targets.
These measures are complemented by everyday energy-saving practices adopted by employees, reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility.
Community impact
Beyond the workplace, ING Hubs Philippines continues to expand its community engagement efforts, guided by the Filipino value of bayanihan, or collective action.
In 2025, the organization supported digital inclusion by donating laptops to Department of Education schools and expanding the ING Orange Corner at Dr. Artemio E. Natividad Elementary School. The initiative provided students with improved access to reading and learning resources.
The company also partnered with Reztyle to divert nearly 9,000 kilograms of textile waste from landfills, promoting recycling and supporting local livelihoods.
This year, sustainability initiatives have extended further into underserved areas. Solar panels have been installed in last-mile schools in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan, improving access to electricity and enhancing learning environments.
Employees have also participated in food rescue efforts with Scholars of Sustenance Philippines, helping reduce food waste while providing meals to communities in need. A blood donation drive in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross further underscored the organization’s social commitment.
“Bayanihan gives our community engagement a shared direction,” said Hazel Zaide Delos Santos, country manager of ING Hubs Philippines. “It helps turn individual efforts into collective impact.”
Inclusive tech
The organization is also integrating sustainability into its digital operations through accessibility initiatives.
Under the A11yance program, the Retail Technology team is training engineers to design applications that are accessible to people with disabilities.
Since its launch in late 2025, the initiative has focused on empathy-based design and is expected to reach nearly 1,000 engineers across web development teams.
By embedding accessibility into product development, ING Hubs Philippines aims to ensure that digital services are inclusive and usable by a broader range of customers.
Everyday ESG
Across its operations, ING Hubs Philippines demonstrates how sustainability can be embedded into both large-scale strategies and everyday actions.
From reducing emissions and managing energy use to empowering employees and supporting communities, the organization is aligning its efforts with ING’s global ESG ambitions while making sustainability a practical part of daily work. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
