PAL widens pet-friendly travel access with cats in cabin

Insider Spotlight

  • Philippine Airlines is widening access to pet-friendly domestic travel by allowing small cats, alongside dogs, inside aircraft cabins
  • FurPAL is available on all PAL domestic flights, with a one-way fee starting at P2,500
  • The move targets travelers who increasingly regard pets as family members and prefer to keep them nearby during trips

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is broadening its pet-friendly travel offering as it seeks to make domestic trips more accessible to passengers who consider their pets part of the family, reducing the need for owners to be separated from their animals while flying.

The flag carrier said its FurPAL program now accommodates small cats in aircraft cabins alongside dogs on all domestic flights. Passengers may bring one small dog or cat inflight for a one-way fee starting at P2,500, subject to applicable requirements and guidelines.

Expanded coverage

The expanded coverage gives cat owners an in-cabin option for domestic travel, extending a service previously focused on dogs to a broader group of pet-owning passengers.

PAL framed the change around the growing role of companion animals in family life and the desire of owners to include them in trips, whether for vacations, visits to relatives or reunions.

The airline said allowing pets to stay with their owners could provide greater comfort and peace of mind during journeys.

Safe in pet carriers

FurPAL permits one small dog or cat per passenger in the cabin provided that they are placed in a pet carrier with a size limit of 46 centimeters by 32 centimeters by 20 centimeters and a maximum combined pet-and-carrier weight of 10 kilograms.

Travelers remain subject to the airline's booking requirements and pet travel guidelines. Details on booking requirements, guidelines, and other program information are available on www.philippineairlines.com or through PAL's official channels.

Service feature for domestic flights

The FurPAL expansion adds another passenger-service feature to PAL's domestic network, which currently covers 29 destinations from its Manila and Cebu hubs. The carrier also flies to 40 international destinations across Asia, North America, Australia and the Middle East.

PAL, founded in 1941, describes itself as the Philippines' only full-service network airline. It was recognized by aviation analytics company Cirium for having the highest on-time performance among Asia-Pacific carriers in 2025 and was invited to join the oneworld Alliance in 2026. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S.
