This growth is expected to push student enrollment to 85,000, reinforcing NU’s mission of making quality education more accessible.
The expansion also reflects SM Group’s commitment to education as a driver of social progress, continuing its long-standing support of NU since 2008.
‘Expanding with purpose’
“We've been expanding with the purpose of providing more access to quality education, which is core to the SM Group's commitment to social good,” Dr. Renato Carlos H. Ermita Jr., president and CEO of NU, said in a statement.
“For us, giving back means ensuring that excellence in education reaches more Filipinos, regardless of their background. The Sy family has always aimed for excellence at NU—whether in academics, infrastructure, or sports,” he added.
NU’s mission
Both institutions share a vision of breaking barriers and creating more opportunities for Filipino students, regardless of background.
NU’s inclusive admissions policy and student assessment programs further align with SM’s goal of fostering social mobility through education.
Strengthening its global standing, NU recently earned a QS 3 Stars rating, with top marks in employability, teaching, and social impact.
“This recognition from our international peers is a testament to our commitment to our students and graduates,” Ermita said.
“Our chairman, Dr. Hans Sy, recognizes the value of research and faculty development, which is why we are transforming NU into a research-oriented university. This is in direct alignment with the SM Group's long-standing advocacy for advancing education and social progress,” he added.
